A mum has urged people to stop binning empty spice jars, saying they can earn extra money in the run-up to Christmas. The woman, who posts as @chaostocash on social media, shared that she sold a set of 10 herb glass jars on Vinted for £2.
What did she sell on Vinted?
Among her more surprising finds were the glass jars that spices come in, which she said have a genuine market once the contents have been used up. She explained she "sold a set of 10 herb glass jars, literally what you buy from the shop for your herbs and spices".
She admitted she only pocketed £2 for them, but said if you have more of the same knocking about, the pennies could quickly start adding up without any real effort. She noted "you can sell absolutely anything on Vinted", and captioned her video: "If you have the space to save things, then you may as well try and earn some money from things you'd usually throw away!"
How can spice jars be reused by others?
Buyers may repurpose the jars in several ways, including as a toothpick or match dispenser, homemade seasoning and tea blends, a travel spice kit, or a mini propagation station for plant cuttings. Others use them for custom candle votives, hardware and craft storage, or single-stem vases.
She said: "It's just lying around my house, I don't need it, and I've got some money for it." If the jars were destined for the recycling bin anyway, there is no harm in listing them on Vinted, she added.
