Marks & Spencer is launching a 20% off sale on school uniforms starting Thursday, July 2, with no end date set. The discount applies automatically online and in stores across the UK without requiring a voucher or code.
Sale Details and Duration
According to Martin Lewis's MoneySavingExpert (MSE), the sale has no expected end date. The MSE site stated: "This is usually the only time of year we see M&S offer this widespread discount on its school uniform, so now's a good time to buy. Of course, as it's coming to the end of the school year, you'll need to consider any potential summer growth spurts when buying. M&S told us there is currently no end date set, but it will be on 'for a limited time', depending on stock."
Items Included and Pricing
Eligible items include shirts, trousers, skirts, dresses, and polos. Prices vary by age group: sizes 3-6 are cheaper than 7-9, with further increases for 10-14 and 15+. Discounted examples include:
- Unisex School Sweatshirt (five colours): from £4.80 (normally £6-£9)
- Stain-Resist Plain Polo Shirts (three-pack, four colours): from £5.60 (normally £7-£15)
- Girls' Permanent Pleats School Skirt (four colours): from £5.60 (normally £7-£14)
- Boys' Regular Leg School Trousers (two colours): from £6.40 (normally £8-£13)
Impact on Parents
The average cost of school uniforms is about £340 for primary school and £454 for secondary school annually, typically including branded items, generic clothing, PE kits, and shoes. Early sales help parents spread costs. From September, schools must cap branded uniform items to three (excluding ties) under the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, saving parents up to £50 per child, according to officials.
