Marks & Spencer has unveiled a new Halloween snack, the Wicked Pickled Worms crisps, but the product has sparked a mixed reaction from shoppers. The crisps, described as 'wiggly potato shapes with a tangy pink pickled onion seasoning', are intended as a spooky savoury treat for Halloween parties.
Food blogger New Foods UK posted an image of the crisps on Facebook, praising them as 'amazing' and comparing them to Walkers pickled onion French Fries. However, numerous social media users noted a resemblance to mealworms, with one commenting: 'I can't get over that they look like mealworms though.' Another said: 'They seriously look like dried mealworms.'
Despite the backlash, some customers have given glowing reviews. One fan described them as 'so addictive', while another called them 'absolutely delicious, my new fave'. The product packaging features a green design with a witch holding worms, and the crisps are made from potato flour and starch for a light, crispy texture.
M&S has also introduced other Halloween items, including Cheesy Bat Fangs, Spooky Chilli or Cheese Tortillas, and confectionery like Hallow-Scream Munch and Petrifying Pumpkins. The retailer is known for launching viral food products, such as its Marmite and caramel sauce.
