Marks & Spencer is implementing a significant pricing strategy overhaul across its stores, with more than 20 staple vegetable products now available at reduced prices. This move is specifically designed to attract a broader base of family shoppers who are seeking quality food without the premium cost often associated with the retailer.
Expanding Value Ranges for Budget-Friendly Shopping
Traditionally known for its high-quality food offerings, M&S has sometimes been perceived as carrying a higher price tag compared to other supermarkets. However, the retailer is now actively working to change this perception by making key weekly shop essentials more affordable. The initiative focuses on vegetables, which are central to family meals, with the goal of encouraging healthier eating on a budget.
Details of the Price Reductions
The pricing changes include 15 new vegetable staples added to the Remarksable Value range and another seven products incorporated into the Dropped & Locked campaign. In total, an impressive 19 items have seen their prices lowered. For instance, 300g of chestnut mushrooms have been reduced from £1.40 to £1.30, while 600g of leeks now cost £1.90, down from £2.20.
According to M&S Food Managing Director Alex Freudmann, "Families want to eat well without paying more, and vegetables are at the heart of the weekly shop." He added, "By lowering prices on everyday veg staples, we’re making it easier for more families to shop M&S as part of their weekly shop as we double the size of M&S Food."

Enhancing Customer Rewards with Sparks App Overhaul
In addition to the vegetable price cuts, M&S has also revamped its Sparks rewards app to provide more savings opportunities for shoppers. Customers can now earn cash directly into a new digital Sparks wallet, accessible through the M&S app, by spending specified amounts in different product categories.
The offers will be updated weekly based on individual shopping habits. For example, shoppers could earn £10 in their Sparks wallet by spending £50 on fashion, home, and beauty products, or £6 by purchasing £30 worth of nightwear.
M&S has confirmed that it will retain some existing Sparks perks, such as free birthday treats, coffee stamps that offer a free drink after six purchases, exclusive currency rates, and discounts on insurance policies. This decision follows customer feedback, ensuring that loyal shoppers continue to benefit from popular rewards while new incentives are introduced.
This comprehensive approach—combining price reductions on essential vegetables with an enhanced rewards system—positions M&S as a more competitive option for family shoppers looking to manage their weekly grocery budgets effectively.
