Morrisons has begun stocking festive chocolates in stores, despite Christmas being 144 days away. The early arrival has left some shoppers baffled, while others say it's a normal yearly occurrence.
Festive treats on shelves
Selection boxes are already available, containing "six festive treats inside," including Crunchie, Wispa, Dairy Milk, Fudge, Buttons, and a caramel Freddo. Milkybar has introduced a festive caramel crunch variety, and mini Kit Kat chocolate orange Santas are also on offer, alongside traditional flavours.
After Eight has launched 'winter fondants' in festive shapes, and Aero is offering a 'festive orange' variety. Rowntrees Randoms have unveiled a 'sleigh-tastic' flavour. Tubes of favourites like Smarties and Milkybar are also in plentiful supply.
Shopper reactions
UK's Newest Foods revealed that "Christmas has landed at Morrisons in August." In comments, some shoppers expressed frustration, questioning why people are surprised. One wrote: "Are people ever going to stop being surprised? This happens every year... Get over it, it's the same every year!"
Another commented: "Usually, the last weekend in August, the first bits appear in supermarkets... It's a shame, I was in the range at the weekend, and it was all autumn and Halloween stuff." They added: "Companies just rush us through the year to take as much money as they can, and people just live in the future instead of the now."
A third said: "Been doing it for around 20 years in August and you'll still get the idiots acting shocked..." A fourth joked: "Does this mean I can put my Halloween decorations up now?"
