Morrisons is rolling out a major change across hundreds of its Morrisons Daily branches in England and Wales, expanding its partnership with delivery platform Snappy Shopper.
The latest phase of the deal, announced on Monday, was hailed as a "significant milestone" by both firms. Customers can now shop from the full Morrisons Daily range through the Snappy Shopper app, including everyday essentials, Morrisons Savers products, own-brand lines and multibuy promotions.
Expansion details
Mike Callachan, Snappy Shopper's chief executive, said: "We’re delighted to continue expanding our partnership with Morrisons Daily as we roll out across hundreds of stores throughout its convenience estate." He added that the expansion "reflects the strong performance of the partnership to date and our shared ambition to make fast, reliable grocery delivery available to even more customers."
Orders of more than £35 qualify for free delivery. Deliveries will be sorted by Nash, with JetGo serving as the preferred last-mile delivery partner. The firms said this would ensure a "seamless and reliable" delivery experience.
Growing demand
Snappy Shopper noted the partnership has been a success, with an average order value of £31 showing "growing demand" for convenient online grocery shopping. The expansion also allows Morrisons to meet orders through the Foodhub platform, widening its reach.
Charlotte Exell, group online director at Morrisons, said: "We’re pleased to expand our Snappy Shopper partnership across our Morrisons Daily stores, making it even easier for customers to shop with us. This rollout gives households in England and Wales even more convenient ways to get fresh food and groceries from Morrisons delivered straight to their door."
Context
The announcement comes after Morrisons revealed a slowdown in sales growth in June, with total sales rising 1.7% to £4bn over the 13 weeks to April 26, compared with 2.6% in the previous quarter. In May, the company announced plans to shut about 100 lossmaking convenience stores, though it opened 30 new Morrisons Daily franchise stores in the quarter and plans to open hundreds more in the years ahead.
