Mother Saves £18,000 by Shopping Only from Supermarket Reduced Shelf

A mother-of-two from Cwmbran, South Wales, has saved up to £18,000 over five years by exclusively buying reduced items at supermarkets. Kelly Eroglu, 40, reduced her weekly food spend from £90 to £20 after cutting her hours as a cabin crew member to spend more time with her children.

Kelly now feeds herself, her husband Stewart, two children, a stepson, and visiting friends and relatives on the smaller budget. She has launched a blog called Reduced Grub, sharing recipes costing between 50p and £1 per portion, which attracts over 1,000 daily visitors.

Her thrifty meals include lamb stuffed aubergine for 75p per head, sea bass with rice and chorizo for £1 per head, and chicken kebabs for 50p per head. She regularly hosts dinner parties and recently catered for 40 guests at her husband's 40th birthday for just £50.

Kelly describes herself as a 'whoops warrior' who 'shops like a ninja' by learning supermarket reduction times. She advises asking friendly shop assistants for the best times to find reduced items.
