Morrisons' £80 Giant Toblerone Slammed by Shoppers as 'Impossible to Eat'
Morrisons' £80 Giant Toblerone Slammed by Shoppers

Morrisons has launched a giant 4.5kg Toblerone bar that costs £80, but shoppers have branded it 'impossible to eat'. The supermarket released the supersized chocolate bar, which is 12 times the size of a regular Toblerone, on Monday, June 8. With a More Card, customers can purchase it for £50 instead.

Shoppers React to the Giant Toblerone

The 80cm-long treat has been met with criticism on social media. Stuart Snowden, known as Grumpy Northern Foodie, shared an image of the giant Toblerone, prompting a flood of negative comments. One shopper warned that the chocolate needed to be microwaved to be edible, while others claimed it would be 'impossible to break'.

Some customers said buyers would have to be 'stupid' to purchase the bar, citing the difficulty of consuming 4.5kg of chocolate. However, one commenter noted that at £1.11 per 100g, the price is 'not bad these days'.

Customer Complaints

  • 'It's so hard to eat. I had to microwave it as each block is so big and solid.'
  • 'I'm interested to see what it looks like once opened. Is it the same design as the normal ones and therefore probably impossible to break? You'd have to love Toblerone to spend that much in one go!'
  • 'When I was a child they said you can't put a price on stupidity - they were wrong.'
  • 'I've no idea how you would cut a chunk off, let alone eat it.'
  • 'I would have to suck it as my teeth wouldn't allow it. It would last a year so I hope there's a good date on it.'

Positive Feedback

Despite the backlash, some shoppers saw value in the offer. One commented: 'That’s £1.11 per 100g, which is not a bad price these days.'

Morrisons' Statement

The promotion runs until Father's Day, June 21. A Morrisons spokesperson said: 'Morrisons is turning Father’s Day into a choc-fest with the return of its gigantic Toblerone bar – and it’s set to be the ultimate gift for dads and father figures with a sweet tooth. Weighing a whopping 4.5kg, the supersized Swiss chocolate bar is heavier than the average newborn baby and packs in more than 12 times the chocolate of a regular Toblerone.'

'While it looks luxurious, the giant comes with a surprisingly sweet price tag too. Shoppers can snap it up for £50 with a More Card – around £35 cheaper than similar oversized Toblerones sold elsewhere. Made with the classic Toblerone recipe of smooth Swiss milk chocolate, honey and crunchy almond nougat, the giant triangular treat, measuring 80cm in length, is designed to wow on Father’s Day.'

'Whether it’s shared with the whole family or hidden away for dad to enjoy piece by piece, this mega bar is guaranteed to make a massive impression.'
