Melrose Interiors Limited, a Bradford-based rug manufacturer and distributor established in 1968, has formally appointed administrators. The move follows the collapse of its parent company, the flooring wholesale giant Headlam Group, which entered administration in September 2026 due to a liquidity shortfall.
Pre-pack sale secures core business
Immediately following their appointment, joint administrators from Interpath completed a pre-pack sale of certain business operations and assets of Melrose Interiors to the Jain family group of UK distribution companies. The deal secured the operational future of the core business and safeguarded 35 jobs, with staff transferring to the new owner.
However, the firm's Spectrum business unit was excluded from the acquisition, resulting in 19 redundancies among staff.
Long-standing supply chain role
Trading from its facility at Park View Mills in Wibsey, Bradford, Melrose Interiors established itself as the UK's largest independent supplier of rugs to the online retail market. Over its 56-year tenure, the firm grew into a vital supply chain partner for prominent independent stores and e-commerce platforms across the UK.
Its products were widely stocked by well-known home furnishing brands and online specialists, including Cosy Rug Co., London Luxury Rugs, Rug Love, Downtown Stores, and Living Homes.
Future plans
In addition to manufacturing and importing ranges under its Melrose, My Melrose, and [RE]lay (recycled rug) labels, the business specialised in direct-to-consumer fulfilment, sending out hundreds of thousands of dispatches each year on behalf of its retail partners.
Instead of selling exclusively through traditional brick-and-mortar stores under their own name, Melrose focused on working directly with major retailers and e-commerce companies. The new owners plan to invest in stock and digital ordering technology to rebuild the brand and support its retail partners going forward.
