Plans to demolish a derelict office block have been submitted to Wirral Council. Dominick House, on St Alban's Road in Liscard, has fallen into a state of disrepair since its closure in 2018.
Uncertainty Over the Building's Future
There has been uncertainty over the building's future for some time. A Manchester-based developer recently hoped to turn the building into an apartment block. There has also been interest from a major supermarket chain about moving into the site.
Despite efforts to bring the building back to life, there have been constant calls for its demolition. Liscard Together, a local community partnership, previously claimed the building is "beyond reasonable repair."
Demolition Application Submitted
An application has now been launched to determine whether approval will be required to demolish the former government office building. Documents submitted to Wirral Council claim the demolition of the building could start as soon as August 10.
The application has been launched by Prospect Estates Ltd, which owns the leasehold of the building. Wirral Council owns the freehold.
Preparations for Demolition
Before the demolition, fencing would be set up in various places around the perimeter to ensure the site is secure. A strip-out operation would take place within the building before any demolition works begin.
Demolition work on the site would take place between 7.30am and 5pm on weekdays and between 8am and 1.30pm on Saturdays. No work would take place on Sundays or on bank holidays.
Plans for the Site
Plans say the building would be demolished in a manner which would "retain stability throughout the process." It is added that the site would be cleared and left in a "tidy" state following the demolition.
Plans explain the site could be used as a car park following the building's proposed demolition.
