Lidl's £4.99 windscreen protector ends winter ice problem

Lidl's £4.99 Year-Round Windscreen Protector, available in the Middle of Lidl from Sunday, November 8, aims to end the common winter problem of frozen windscreens.

The supermarket claims the accessory is effective in all extreme temperatures the UK faces, protecting from ice in winter and reducing heat build-up in summer. Drivers can apply it the night before a cold snap to avoid needing extra minutes in the morning to defrost their windscreen.

Design and coverage

The kit covers the windscreen and includes additional covers for each side mirror, which Lidl says ensures every angle gets "perfect coverage". The supermarket describes the £4.99 accessory as having a "high-quality four-layer design" with a reflective aluminium coating and insulating layers.

According to the store, the windscreen protector (without tabs) measures 118cm (top), 145cm (bottom) and 99cm (high). The side mirror covers are 31.5cm (long) by 27cm (wide). Lidl states the item is "suitable for standard car windscreens and side mirrors".

Fitting and temperature range

Lidl said: "Secure and easy to fit thanks to the wide tabs for clamping in the door and the side mirror covers with elasticated straps and drawstring. Temperature-resistant from -50°C to +70°C."

Other new items arriving in stores on November 1, 5 and 8 include advent calendars (from £2.70), winter clothing for men and women (from £1.99), and from November 5 a range of indoor and outdoor plants, the XXL food week, and a selection of Christmas products including decor, lighting and gift wrap.
