A savvy Lidl customer has been praised for a money-saving hack that secured her a 1kg bag of ginger for free. The trick, shared on TikTok by user @Bargainbeth, involves using the Lidl Plus app's 'Coupons Plus' feature, which offers free produce to shoppers who hit monthly spending milestones.
In a video that has garnered over 70,000 views, Beth explained how she used a fresh vegetable voucher to get the ginger at no cost. 'Ginger is the most expensive loose veg item, it's like £5 for a kilogram,' she said. 'I just used my loose veg voucher and got it all for free.' The vouchers are unlocked after spending £50 in a month, with lower tiers offering free bakery items at £10.
Beth's tip delighted social media users, with one commenting: 'Thanks for this, got £5.34 worth of ginger for free today.' Another viewer called the trick 'genius,' while a third admitted: 'I never even thought of using it this way.'
Beth also noted that the voucher can be used on other loose vegetables, such as potatoes, and suggested making ginger shots from the free ginger. 'I have since made the 1kg ginger into ginger shots – blended them, strained through mesh material and boom got at least 20+ shots!!' she added.
Shoppers praised the simplicity of the hack, with one asking for guidance on how to execute it at the till. Beth advised: 'Yeah I take an estimate of 1kg to the tills and weigh it out on the scale tills (my store doesn’t have a scale in the aisles) then ring it up.'
