Lidl £8.99 gilet compared to £1,131 Moncler version

Lidl is set to launch a new padded gilet for £8.99 that closely resembles high-end alternatives, offering a budget-friendly option for shoppers. The Men's Black Padded Gilet arrives at all Lidl locations from Sunday, October 18, and is exclusively available in-store.

Design and features

The gilet features two large pockets, one on either side, suitable for carrying everyday essentials. Its waterproof construction makes it adaptable to various weather conditions. Crafted from 100 per cent polyester, the item is only sold in Lidl branches, so home delivery is not available.

Shoppers can check stock at their nearest store using the online store finder by entering their postcode, which displays a list of nearby branches.

Comparison with premium versions

The Lidl gilet is positioned as a cheaper alternative to similar products from other retailers. La Redoute stocks a Reversible Padded Gilet priced at £50, which offers two looks through its black and leopard print reversible design. At first glance, it is difficult to tell the two apart, though the reversible aspect is a notable difference.

Luxury brand Moncler sells the Gabas Down Gilet for £1,131 at HBX, which is over 125 times more expensive than Lidl's version. The most noticeable difference between them is the collar design.

Product details and availability

The Moncler gilet includes features such as micro soft ultra-lightweight nylon fabric, regular fitted shoulders and chest, water-repellent material, a boxy waistline, stand collar, front zip closure, silicone logo patch on the chest, side pockets with snap button closure, zipped inner pockets, elastic cuffs and hem, down filling, micro soft lining, and is made in Romania.

Both the La Redoute and Moncler versions can be delivered to customers' doorsteps, unlike the Lidl gilet. Further details are available on the La Redoute and HBX websites.
