Lidl is releasing a £4.99 Countdown Nutcracker this Sunday, November 8, as part of a new Middle Aisle update, offering a budget-friendly alternative to a similar £64.95 ornament sold at Harrods.
The budget supermarket is launching a wave of new Christmas items this weekend. Christmas lighting, decorations, wrapping paper, and cards arrive this Thursday, November 5, followed by a second major wave of indoor 'Christmas Décor' dropping in stores on Sunday, with 51 days left until Christmas Day.
Lidl's Countdown Nutcracker Details
The Livarno Countdown Nutcracker, priced at £4.99, is described by Lidl as a "traditional nutcracker figure made from hand-painted wood." Key features include 100% FSC-certified wood, a free-standing design, a height of 35cm, and indoor use only.
Shoppers can choose from three nutcracker designs in total, including a Bear Nutcracker and a Traditional Cracker.
Comparison with Harrods Version
Harrods is selling a Kurt S Adler Nutcracker Calendar Ornament for £64.95. The product description on the Harrods website reads: "Crafted from wood, this Kurt S Adler ornament introduces the classic figure into your decor repertoire and also features a calendar to make the countdown to the big day that little bit more enchanting."
The Lidl and Harrods nutcrackers look similar because they share an almost-identical festive design concept. Both are traditional, hand-painted wooden figures standing on a red platform, holding a green 'Days 'til Christmas' countdown block. They feature matching details, including bright blue eyes, a black moustache, a white fluffy beard, a red jacket, gold shoulder detailing, round wooden hands, white trousers, and black boots.
However, they wear different headwear, and while Lidl's red platform is round, Harrods' is square.
Key Differences
One of the biggest differences is size. The Harrods nutcracker is slightly larger, standing at about 40.5cm tall, while the Lidl version is 35cm.
There is also a major difference in how they are sold. The Harrods nutcracker is a single premium designer item, whereas Lidl offers its countdown style as part of a three-piece collection.
