Lidl is launching a new range of car maintenance items next week as part of its weekly Special Buy Middle Aisle refresh, including a £2.99 spray that could help drivers avoid an on-the-spot £100 fine and three penalty points.
The new Middle of Lidl car range will be in stores from Sunday, November 8. Among the tools and gadgets on offer are four 400ml car sprays under the supermarket's Parkside brand, each priced at £2.99.
Foggy Windscreens and the Law
Foggy windows are a common daily issue for drivers during October and November, as seasonal changes create conditions for severe condensation inside vehicles. Driving with a misted windscreen can lead to a hefty fine and penalty points.
Under Section 229 of the Highway Code, motorists must completely clear all condensation, ice, and snow from their windows before setting off. Driving with fogged-up glass means the driver does not have a full view of the road. Police can issue an immediate £100 fine and three penalty points for driving with an obstructed view.
If a blocked view leads to an accident, drivers can face charges of careless driving, resulting in fines up to £2,500, a potential driving ban, and voided car insurance. Many drivers are caught out by "portholing" - clearing only a small patch of glass directly in front of them and driving off while waiting for the heater to clear the rest, which is strictly illegal.
How Lidl's Anti-Fog Spray Works
Lidl's new Parkside Anti Fog Spray applies a specialised coating to the inside of the glass, stopping moisture from sticking to the surface and preventing mist from forming. The spray must be applied to clean, dry glass, and drivers should ensure it does not leave heavy streaks or smears, as glare from oncoming headlights could still be ruled as dangerously impaired vision.
Other Car Sprays in the Range
Alongside the Anti Fog Spray, Lidl will introduce three other 400ml car sprays under the Parkside brand: Rain-Repellent Spray, which creates an invisible, non-reflective coating that causes water to bead up and roll off glass surfaces; Vaseline Spray, a water-repellent lubricant designed to preserve and protect seals, metal, rubber, plug-ins, and screw connections; and De-Icer Spray, which removes hoarfrost and ice in temperatures down to -30°C while protecting windows, locks, and boots from ice build-up.
