The Leapmotor T03 has claimed the title of the UK's cheapest new car following a price reduction to £12,995. The compact electric vehicle, manufactured by Leapmotor—a brand owned by Stellantis—now undercuts rivals such as the Dacia Spring and MG models after the introduction of an enhanced 'Leap-Grant' discount of £3,000.
Specifications and Features
The T03 is fully electric and offers a range of up to 165 miles on a single charge. Standard equipment across all variants includes a 10.1-inch infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, and adaptive cruise control. The vehicle also comes with a suite of driver assistance systems, including lane departure warning and blind-spot detection, enhancing safety and convenience.
Leap-Grant and Market Impact
Leapmotor first introduced its Leap-Grant incentive before the government launched its own Electric Car Grant. Since its UK debut last year, the brand has registered 10,000 vehicles. The T03 joins the C10 and B10 in Leapmotor's electric vehicle lineup. Damien Dally, managing director of Leapmotor UK, stated: "When we launched our industry-first Leap-Grant a year ago, we offered simplicity, clarity, and financial savings for customers left confused and in limbo by the Government’s own scheme. To celebrate 12 months of helping buyers ‘take the leap’ to electrification, we’re delighted to be doubling the Leap-Grant on the T03, making it not just the most affordable new EV in the UK, but the most affordable new car full stop."
Government Electric Car Grant Comparison
The UK government's Electric Car Grant provides up to £3,750 off the cost of a new electric vehicle, but qualifying models must meet strict criteria regarding manufacturing location, transport methods, and overall efficiency. The Leapmotor T03's new price of £12,995 positions it as a more accessible option for budget-conscious buyers seeking an electric vehicle.
