Kalvin Phillips is finalising a loan move to Sheffield United ahead of the new season as he seeks to get his career back on track. The Manchester City midfielder has endured a difficult period since joining the club from Leeds United in 2022 for £42million.
No Future at City
Phillips has no future at the Etihad Stadium but still has two years remaining on the six-year contract he signed upon his arrival. His latest attempt to revive his career will see him link up again with the Championship side, having spent time on loan at Bramall Lane last season.
Chris Wilder is keen to bring the 30-year-old back to the club, and the deal is expected to be completed in the coming days.
Limited Appearances
Phillips, who has earned 31 caps for England, made just three appearances for Sheffield United last term. He was sent off in his last outing for the club during a Steel City derby win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The England international made only one seven-minute substitute appearance for City last season, coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town in September.
Struggles for Game Time
Since joining City, Phillips has made just two Premier League starts. He has also spent time on loan at West Ham and Ipswich in an effort to secure regular football.
Phillips has been left out of City's pre-season tour squad for three games in Asia as he finalises a return to Yorkshire. Sheffield United are expected to be among the favourites for promotion from the Championship as they aim to return to the Premier League.
