J's Cycle Shack, a popular UK sports retailer, has collapsed into administration after 12 years in business. The company, which operated stores in Wakefield and Epworth alongside an online shop, appointed administrators earlier this week, according to a notice in the Gazette.
Stores and services
The physical stores specialised in bikes, repairs, cycling gear and other services, while the online store also stocked running gear, nutrition supplements, trainers and more. No reason has been given for the appointment of administrators.
The business was founded by James Wagner in 2014, starting as a small local bike shop and growing to four stores and showrooms around the country. Currently, the stores in Wakefield, Leeds and Epworth are showing as 'temporarily closed' on Google, and the website has gone dark.
Administrator appointed
John Hedger of Seneca IP Limited has been appointed as an administrator. When a company enters administration, creditors are legally prevented from taking action against the company without the administrator's or court's consent, including winding-up petitions, bailiff visits and legal proceedings.
Following this, a company's options are often reviewed. If no solution is found, the company may enter liquidation, where assets are used to pay off debts.
Community and customer response
J's Cycle Shack also collaborated with local running and cycling clubs to host events and encourage participation in the sports. The shops were popular with customers, with many leaving five-star reviews on Google.
One customer wrote: "I ordered a new bike J's cycles and the service from Josh was nothing short of exceptional. He went well above and beyond to get me the exact bike I wanted and was so helpful and understanding in the process. He always tried to keep the cost as low as possible as well.
