JD Sports to Open Largest Scottish Store in Livingston This Weekend
JD Sports Opens Largest Scottish Store in Livingston

JD Sports is set to open its largest store in Scotland this weekend at The Centre, Livingston. The 15,500 sq ft superstore will launch on July 9, with a celebratory event running until July 12.

Relocation and Expansion

The sportswear retailer is moving from its original unit, which opened in 2008, to a bigger location near the entrance opposite New Look. The move comes in response to increased customer demand, offering a bigger selection of styles from brands such as Nike, Adidas, ASICS, New Balance, and Montirex.

Launch Event Highlights

To mark the opening, a live DJ will perform in-store. The first 50 customers spending £50 or more on opening day will receive a free JD Sports goodie bag. A Spin To Win station will operate over the weekend, offering prizes including trainers or JD gift cards, but participants must be JD Status Members (free app download required).

Company Background

Founded in 1981 by John Wardle and David Makin, JD Sports is now a leading omni-channel sports retailer with 4,811 stores globally, including in the US and Asia. The Livingston opening follows the closure of 24 UK stores in 2023 as part of a strategy to maintain 'fewer, bigger, better' locations.

Comparison with Other Stores

While the Livingston store is one of Scotland's largest, the UK's biggest JD Sports is at Manchester's Trafford Centre, spanning 41,000 sq ft with interactive zones and customization areas. The Centre, Livingston, ranked 28th largest UK shopping centre, celebrates its 50th year with 150 retailers including M&S, Wagamama, H&M, HMV, and Primark.

Other Developments at The Centre

Collapsed health and beauty retailer Bodycare will return to The Centre and 17 other UK locations, including Glasgow's The Fort. Across the road at the Designer Outlet, luxury jeweller Chapelle's opened its first Scottish store in June, offering brands like Michael Kors, Guess, Armani, and Links of London. A new 20,000 sq ft Flip Out trampoline park is also opening this summer, featuring trampolines, Ninja Tag, inflatables, soft play, a roller rink, arcade games, and a diner.
