Ikea is set to compete with platforms like eBay and Vinted by introducing a new marketplace for its second-hand furniture and homewares. The Swedish retailer hopes the platform will make it "as seamless as possible" for customers to buy and sell pre-owned Ikea items.
UK launch details pending
The company has not announced a launch date for the UK platform but indicated that more information would be shared "in the coming months." Members of its loyalty scheme, Ikea Family, will be able to connect with other customers through the platform.
Trials in other countries
Ikea has already tested second-hand marketplace services in Spain and Norway. The move reflects the growing popularity of second-hand shopping on sites like eBay, Vinted, and Facebook Marketplace. Vinted has expanded beyond fashion to include electronics and homeware, and retailers such as John Lewis and Currys also offer pre-loved and refurbished products.
