I never used to shop at Marks & Spencer until I discovered a bargain 70p item that completely changed my perspective. Previously, I believed that even glancing at M&S products would put a dent in my wallet, but it has now become my favourite supermarket thanks to one cheap cleaning product.
Why I Changed My Mind About M&S
Nothing kills my mood quite like glancing at the receipt after my weekly food shop and discovering I have been overcharged for everyday items. That is why I am particularly choosy about where I spend my money. I used to give Marks & Spencer a wide berth due to its pricey reputation, opting instead for Lidl or Aldi for my everyday essentials.
Earlier this year, however, I ran out of cleaning products and decided to nip into my nearest M&S as it was just a five-minute walk away. I braced myself for an eye-watering total and fully expected my bank balance to take a battering — but I was genuinely taken aback by just how reasonable the homecare range turned out to be. I spent roughly £10 on everything I needed that day, and after putting the products to the test over the following month, M&S has since become my go-to destination for all things cleaning.
Why Do I Exclusively Buy M&S Cleaning Products?
Marks & Spencer washing up liquid is priced at 70p, which is marginally dearer than rival supermarket own-brands — Lidl charges 69p and Aldi just 62p. That said, it remains competitively priced and still undercuts more well-known brands such as Fairy, which costs 89p a bottle at both Tesco and Aldi.
What truly won me over with the M&S washing up liquid is its staying power — I now only need to replace it once a month, compared to my previous habit of buying a new bottle roughly every week. It dawned on me that M&S products are genuinely top-notch, and that purchasing them not only saves me money in the long run but also means I do not need to head to the shops nearly as often.
In my view, Marks and Spencer can be on the expensive side when it comes to snacks — particularly their chocolate or picky bits items — but as someone who keeps a close eye on spending, their cleaning range is absolutely worth every penny.
My Favourite Cleaning Products from M&S
I would naturally recommend their washing up liquid, but I am also a huge fan of their disinfectant for mopping the kitchen floor. Priced at £3.50, it carries a gorgeous honeysuckle fragrance that leaves my home smelling as though I have just lit a candle — which is why I also use it on radiators and skirting boards.
The M&S limescale remover, at just £2, is hands down the best I have ever used, effortlessly shifting stubborn stains from taps and shower fittings with minimal elbow grease.
I take great pride in having a warm and welcoming home, so I am equally devoted to the M&S home fragrance range. Last October, I picked up the peppermint and rosemary mist for £3.25, and I am still working my way through the very same bottle.
As someone with sensitive skin, I tend to be particularly cautious about laundry products, so I was a little apprehensive about trying the M&S fabric softener initially. I have had absolutely no issues whatsoever — it leaves my clothes smelling wonderful, and the £3.50 bottle keeps me going for roughly two months.
I am also a big admirer of their cleaning wipes, which cut through tricky areas like stovetops without causing any irritation to my skin. I typically purchase the sensitive wipes for £1.85, though I am also fond of the kitchen and bathroom variants, which are priced at £1 and feature a zesty citrus fragrance.
Both the wipes and kitchen towels tend to last me a fortnight each time, making them excellent value for money. I genuinely had not anticipated becoming such an enthusiastic M&S shopper, but purchasing my household basics there has saved me both cash and effort, as I am no longer having to stock up on these products weekly.
