A homeowner in the UK has shared the moment she cracked open a mysterious safe discovered during renovations of her Georgian farmhouse. Lucy, who is renovating the property inherited from her grandmother, posted a video on TikTok showing her and her father unlocking the safe after finding a key that might fit.
For two months, Lucy has been documenting the renovation online, which has been plagued by cracked ceilings and suspected walls due to historic leaks and beetle activity in the joists. Despite these setbacks, she was thrilled to find the safe embedded in the wall behind kitchen cupboards.
Upon opening the safe, Lucy revealed its contents in a follow-up video: a set of cutlery, letters, a silver spoon commemorating the 1937 coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and an income tax bill. More sentimental items included a marriage licence with a wax seal and a wedding order of service booklet dated 4 February 1961.
Lucy admitted the treasures were not valuable enough to fund the renovation, but viewers praised the sentimental finds. One commented, 'How lovely that they kept sentimental stuff in the safe! I bet it’s firesafe.' Lucy also noted that the key turned smoothly and said she couldn't believe it worked.
Now, Lucy plans to bring in a structural engineer to assess a beetle-eaten beam and a cracked chimney breast, continuing the renovation journey with the safe's contents kept as keepsakes.
