Hamilton Academical has officially announced the signing of striker Andy Ryan on a two-year deal, bringing him back to New Douglas Park for a third spell. The 31-year-old returns after a FIFA transfer ban delayed the move, which was first reported by Lanarkshire Live Sport on May 20.
Reunion with Boss Darian MacKinnon
Ryan reunites with Accies manager Darian MacKinnon, having previously played alongside him during Hamilton's promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 2014 and their subsequent two-year stint in the top flight. Despite the club's financial difficulties over the past year, Accies are understood to be pushing the boat out to sign big names for League One level, outbidding many SPFL rivals.
Ryan's Career and Achievements
A product of the Accies academy, Ryan first broke into the senior side in 2011, making 93 appearances and scoring nine goals in his initial spell. He returned in 2021, adding 45 appearances and 13 goals before moving to Larne in January 2023. During his time in Northern Ireland, Ryan scored 70 goals in 121 appearances, helping Larne win three league titles and qualify for the UEFA Conference League. Across his career, which includes spells with Arbroath, Dunfermline Athletic, Stirling Albion, Airdrieonians, Forfar Athletic, and Brechin City, Ryan has scored over 160 goals in more than 400 senior appearances.
Club Statement and Replacement for Oli Shaw
The club stated: "Hamilton Academical are delighted to announce the signing of striker Andy Ryan, who returns to the club for a third spell, until the summer of 2028. Subject to SFA approval." Earlier today, Accies announced that star striker Oli Shaw had left to join Dunfermline, making Ryan a ready-made replacement. Additionally, winger Dom Thomas, who left Airdrie at the end of the season, is expected to follow Ryan through the door at New Douglas Park.
