A shopping tip shared online claims to take the guesswork out of buying crunchy grapes. The trick involves checking a small detail on the packaging before you buy.
The key detail on the packet
Katie Sharkey explained that underneath the date on a packet of grapes, in small letters, the word 'variety' appears. The first pack she picked up in her local supermarket was labelled Thompson, which she said are not the crunchy ones to choose.
Instead, she advised looking for packets that specifically say 'Autumn/Crisp' on the label. She described these grapes as “so, so good” and said they are “the ones you want to get”.
Where to find them
Sharkey said Tesco sells them, and M&S “often do them” as well “if you’re struggling to find them anywhere else”. She shared the tip in a video, saying it completely “changed her life”.
In the comments, one person suggested trying cotton candy grapes, though feedback on those can be mixed. Another commenter offered a further tip: “Best tip I ever heard, even for autumn crisps, is make sure the stalks are still green. If the stalks in the bunch aren’t green and are going brown, they’re older grapes and won’t be as crunchy or nice!”
Other suggestions from viewers
A third commenter suggested freezing grapes, saying it tastes “like a sorbet”. A fourth wrote: “Ok this is true but I’ve just had even crunchier grapes and THE crunchiest ever and they were ‘sheegene 20’.”
Sharkey concluded: “So when you’re buying your grapes, look for the variety, and if it says Autumn Crisp, then you’re onto a winner.”
