The Cottage Home Bakery in Low Fell, Gateshead, is celebrating its third birthday, and its giant peach melbas, hailed as 'the world's biggest', continue to fly off the shelves. Customers are advised to get in quick as these treats sell out regularly.
A Bakery Born from a Dream
The bakery, located on Kells Lane, was 'born from a dream' and has seen its popularity grow steadily since opening. It is part of a thriving North East baking scene, with other notable spots including Pink Lane Bakery and the popular bakery at Beamish museum.
While Bensham-based Savour recently made headlines by opening inside Newcastle's Fenwick department store, The Cottage Home Bakery is drawing its own crowds in Low Fell.
More Than Just Peach Melbas
Beyond the peach melbas, the bakery offers saveloy sandwiches with pease pudding and stuffing, a nod to the North East delicacy, as well as mince hot pot pies, which are expected to be in high demand as autumn approaches.
Sweet treats also include Black Forest fresh cream slices and strawberry & cream slices. For those unable to visit in person, the bakery offers delivery via Just Eat.
