Just days after announcing its sudden closure in Windy Nook, popular Gateshead pizza takeaway Nate's has reopened inside a well-known Ryton pub, The Half Moon Inn. The move fulfils a promise from founder Nathan Stokoe that the closure would not be the end of the story.
Nate's Journey from Leisure Centre to Pub Kitchen
Nate's first opened in the summer of 2025 at Gateshead Leisure Centre, where Nathan Stokoe served pizza, pasta, and highly popular Sunday dinners through a hatch. After leaving the leisure centre late last year, he took over a vacant premises in Windy Nook, where the business grew through word of mouth.
Last week, Nathan announced the Windy Nook closure, citing rising rent and running costs that made it 'impossible' to continue. He thanked customers for their support and hinted at a new chapter, stating: 'From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for being part of the Nate's journey. Your support has never gone unnoticed, and I hope you'll stick with me for what's coming next.'
New Home at The Half Moon Inn
That next chapter is at The Half Moon Inn in Ryton, a well-known pub in the area. Nathan shared the news on Facebook, writing: 'We'll be serving our famous Nate's favourites alongside a fantastic pub menu, with food available to eat in or take away. This is a massive new chapter for us, and we can't wait to welcome you all through the doors.'
The pub will offer both dine-in and takeaway options, with menus, opening dates, and special offers to be announced soon. Regulars of Nate's can now enjoy the same dishes in a new setting, while pub customers gain access to the popular pizza and pasta offerings.
Community Response and Future Plans
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local customers, many of whom had expressed disappointment at the Windy Nook closure. Nathan has promised regular updates on social media, including details of opening hours and any introductory deals.
The move marks a strategic shift for Nate's, leveraging the established footfall and kitchen facilities of The Half Moon Inn. It remains to be seen whether this collaboration will lead to a permanent residency or further expansion. For now, fans of Nate's can once again enjoy their favourite meals, now with the added option of a full pub menu.
