A jacket potato enthusiast queued for close to 14 hours to be the first customer at the new Spud Bros Express store in the North East, earning a trolley dash for her dedication.
Caroline Harris from Prudhoe arrived at the EG On the Move services in Rainton at 10.45pm on Monday night, well wrapped up and ready to wait. Doors to the new store did not open until 12pm on Tuesday, when the ribbon was cut and, just like the first customers at other Spud Bros Express branches, Caroline's resilience paid off as she was given the chance to get loads of free stuff by way of a trolley dash around the services.
Expansion in the North East
The new store marks the second Spud Bros Express in the region. The first opened in June at a service station in North Tyneside, after people in the region had travelled to other parts of the country to try their sought-after jacket potatoes. After the success of the one at Cobalt, adding another one in the North East was a bit of a no brainer.
On Tuesday, Harley was back in the region to help launch the new one at the EG On the Move services in Rainton. The business was started by brothers Jacob and Harley Nelson in 2020, going from a food truck to a place that many people are wanting to have on their doorstep.
Previous opening queues
The North Tyneside opening saw a mum and daughter queue up from 4am to be the first customers, but even their dedication was eclipsed by the hours put in by Caroline Harris.
