Family Horrified After Finding Stranger's Ashes in Amazon Urn
Family Horrified by Stranger's Ashes in Amazon Urn

A woman grieving the loss of her beloved grandmother was left stunned after making an unexpected discovery inside a newly purchased keepsake intended to honour her memory.

Ashleigh Wegner ordered a heart-shaped urn from Amazon after her grandmother Dorothy Kuspis passed away at age 98. When the urn arrived, it appeared dusty but otherwise fine. However, upon unscrewing the back, she found it still contained someone else's cremated remains.

“I was shocked. I was kind of grossed out. I was uncomfortable,” Ashleigh said. She immediately contacted Amazon and the third-party seller, demanding a refund but also expressing concern that the urn could be resold to another grieving family.

Amazon issued a refund and sent a replacement urn. The third-party seller has not responded. Ashleigh has since placed her grandmother's ashes in the new urn, but the mystery remains are still with her. She plans to scatter them in the Arizona mountains, similar to a previous incident where she and her husband found a box of ashes in an alleyway and scattered them after the original owners refused to take them back.

“I didn’t want it to end up on the warehouse shelf again and have somebody else make a purchase and have it accidentally get shipped to someone else in a moment like this,” she explained. Amazon has not yet commented on the incident.
