With the clocks going back on Sunday, Amazon has cut the price of the Dreamegg Sunrise Alarm Clock, an expert-tested model rated number one by The Standard's home appliances reviewer, Ellis Cochrane. The alarm clock, which was £69.99, is now £49.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
What is a sunrise alarm clock?
Sunrise alarm clocks are designed to mimic the effects of waking up with a sunrise, providing a gentle light that brightens gradually to simulate a natural sunrise. This helps regulate the circadian rhythm so users wake up feeling refreshed rather than startled.
The benefits extend beyond those who struggle with shorter, darker days, including people prone to sleeping through typical alarms or heavy sleepers. Rosie Scott, osteopath, founder of Erin Health and specialist in headache disorders, told The Standard: "In truth, it is better to wake up to both." She added: "Light to begin the process and a low sound as a backstop. Light alone is unreliable, while a sudden noise on its own is a startle response, which is a poor way to start any day."
The Dreamegg Sunrise Alarm Clock
Cochrane praised the Dreamegg Sunrise 1 for its dinky size, elegant linen finish, and impressive array of sleep-aid sounds, mood lighting, and adjustable sunlight settings. She noted it remains the one on her bedside table to this day.
The clock includes nature sounds, with gentle birdsong becoming her go-to each morning, while the sunlight mimicked a natural sunrise without being too bright or jarring. The clock face can be dimmed or switched off completely, which is useful for those who prefer a dark room. It uses simple-to-follow buttons instead of cumbersome apps. While it lacks a sunset timer, it has a general multi-timer that can be used before bed or to allow a few extra minutes in the morning.
The Dreamegg Sunrise Alarm Clock features 9 colour light settings, 29 sleep-aid sounds, and measures 15 × 15 × 7.3cm. It is available for £49.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
