Costco has issued a recall for its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene after discovering that the bottles may shatter, posing a safety risk to customers. The retailer notified members who purchased the affected product, warning that unopened bottles could break even when not being handled.
The recall applies to bottles sold between 25 April and 26 August in 12 US states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Only item number 1879870 is affected; the total number of cases involved remains unclear.
In an unusual move, Costco has asked customers not to return the prosecco due to the danger. Instead, shoppers are advised to dispose of the bottles by wrapping them in paper towels, placing them in plastic bags, and putting them in the rubbish to avoid injury from shattered glass. A full refund will be provided upon presentation of the mailed recall notice.
