Chick-fil-A has announced the opening date for its first Liverpool site. The restaurant will open on Lord Street on Thursday, August 27, occupying the Grade II-listed 81–89 building, which was formerly home to Lord Street Arcade.
UK expansion plans
In 2024, the Atlanta-based firm said it was in "the process of selecting operators" for four UK cities - with the aim of opening five restaurants within two years. The UK cities in the mix were London, Leeds, Belfast and Liverpool.
The building's front is poised to receive a new look including the company's signature red colour along with a new access point and complete overhaul of the interior.
Community commitments
In announcing its UK investment, the chain pledged a one-off donation of $25,000 to a local non-profit organisation when the chain restaurant successfully opens in the city. It also said it would continue with its donations of surplus food to local shelters, soup kitchens and food charities.
Liverpool resident David Pritchard will lead the new restaurant as the owner-operator, reflecting Chick-fil-A’s commitment to individually owned and operated businesses. As an independent owner, David will lead the restaurant’s operations, hire local talent, as well as build partnerships with local organisations and charities within the community.
Sunday closure tradition
The restaurant will be closed on Sundays, a tradition that dates back to Chick-fil-A’s founder, Truett Cathy, who wanted to give his team members a day off to do what they love, whether that is spending time with friends and family or worship if they choose. The company continues to honour that sentiment today.
The menu is famous for its signature sandwiches and nuggets, which also includes sides, beverages, desserts and kids meals. While UK guests typically refer to the famous items as a “chicken burger,” Chick-fil-A has kept the original name to honour its heritage. The capital “A” in Chick-fil-A symbolises the “top quality” or “Grade A” of its chicken. Overtime, the quality standard the ‘A’ represents expanded to encompass the brand’s commitment to overall high-quality service and our signature hospitality.
