Calderglen Community Submits Revised Lease Bid for Lochwinnoch Pitch

Calderglen Community SCIO, formed from Calderglen AFC, has submitted a revised request for a community asset transfer (CAT) of its pitch in Lochwinnoch Public Park. The application for a 75-year lease covers the fenced area on the north-western side and a small rectangle behind the annexe at the Lochlip Road site. The bid has been validated by Renfrewshire Council.

Background and Previous Withdrawal

The club pulled its previous ownership request, which covered an additional section of the park, after an influx of objections from the community. A club spokesperson said: "The trustees listened carefully to the feedback from last year's submission resulting in that proposal being withdrawn. We feel that we have acted respectfully and honourably in our response to all of the views shared with us in 2025. That is why we've submitted what we think is a more acceptable solution for the village this time."

Club History and Investment

Calderglen have been in existence since 1950 and originally developed the playing surface from a grazing field. Significant sums of money have already been invested in both fencing and changing facilities for the ground. The club spokesperson added: "We feel it's only right and proper that, as custodians of the club, we have the opportunity to build on that legacy."

Community Engagement and Next Steps

During the process for the adjusted application, the club hosted a viewing of the changing rooms, held a meeting for the village, and made a formal presentation to Lochwinnoch Community Council. The latest CAT was received by the local authority on Tuesday, June 9, and the consultation period runs until Friday, July 10. A decision will be made on the bid at a future meeting of the CAT sub-committee. Calderglen Community was established in 2022 as a vehicle for the asset transfer, citing frustration at the lack of investment in sport and recreation facilities in the village as a reason. The organisation's purposes include advancing public participation in sport and providing facilities to the community and community-focused groups.
