Febreeze remains the best air freshener spray, but a budget option from Lidl came closest in a direct comparison, outperforming Aldi's equivalent. The test, conducted by Brian Dillon, pitted Febreeze Air Mist Cotton Fresh (£3.20) against Aldi's Scentcerity Linen & Freesia Dry Room Spray (£1.89) and Lidl's Air by W5 Cotton Fresh spray (69p).
Febreeze wins on scent and longevity
Febreeze, tested first as the benchmark, delivered a rich, natural smell that lingered the longest and was the sweetest of the three, without being overpowering. A small amount went a long way, spreading smoothly and quickly through the room.
Lidl's spray is the top budget pick
Lidl's version produced a gentle mist, though wetter than Febreeze, and spread almost as well, making it a strong substitute at a fraction of the cost. Its scent felt more natural than Aldi's, and at 69p, it offered the best value for those avoiding the premium brand.
Aldi falls short
Aldi's spray came out fast and cloudy, disappearing almost instantly, and required more product to freshen a room. Despite a pleasant sweetness, a slight artificial scent detracted from the experience, leaving it behind both Febreeze and Lidl in the comparison.
