Bridesworld Liverpool closes after 44 years, citing 'incredibly difficult' decision
Bridesworld Liverpool closes after 44 years

Bridesworld Liverpool, a family-run bridal store that has served the community for 44 years, will close its doors for the final time on Wednesday, July 15. The shop, located on County Road in Walton, first opened in 1983 and has remained at those premises ever since, becoming a well-known fixture on one of North Liverpool's busiest shopping streets.

Three generations of family ownership come to an end

The independent shop has been popular for its wedding dresses, bridesmaid gowns, communion and occasion wear. The move to close the store has been described as "incredibly difficult" by its owners. In a message, Bridesworld said: "After 44 wonderful years and three generations, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors on 15th July. This has not been an easy decision."

The statement continued: "Over the past 44 years, we've had the privilege of helping generations of brides and families, getting to know so many wonderful people who have become friends along the way. We are deeply grateful for every visit, every purchase, every recommendation, and every kind word of support you've given us throughout the years. Your loyalty has meant more to us than we could ever express."

Another bridal boutique also closing

The closure comes shortly after Copplestones Bridal, an award-winning boutique based on Sir Thomas Street for nearly 20 years, announced it will shut on Friday, July 31. The boutique opened in 2008. The team previously confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that the "difficult and heartfelt" decision to close was due to increased costs. A large number of gowns have been sold in their closing down sale as brides have "rushed to bag a bargain".

Speaking to the Echo, manager Tracy Tollitt, 59, from Anfield, said: "Everything is just too expensive these days. People are buying online now, and it's been that way for a while. Business hasn’t been good so we expected the closure but it's like that across the industry. It’s a hard industry to be in right now - it’s sad really. We’ve all been in the industry a long time and we will likely stay in it after this - it is what we know and love."

Impact on the local community

Bridesworld Liverpool has been a staple in the Walton area for decades, serving multiple generations of brides and families. The owners expressed their gratitude: "As we close this chapter, we leave with countless treasured memories and sincere appreciation for everyone who has been part of our journey. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing Bridesworld Liverpool to be part of your special moments for the past 44 years."

The closures highlight the challenges facing independent bridal retailers amid rising costs and a shift towards online shopping. Both stores have seen a surge in sales during their closing down sales as customers seek bargains.
