B&M's £12 lamp rivals John Lewis £150 lookalike, shoppers save big
B&M's £12 lamp rivals John Lewis £150 lookalike

B&M is selling a 'stylish' lamp that 'looks good in any room' for a fraction of the cost of a lookalike version on sale at John Lewis. The budget superstore, popular across the country for its affordable prices, has become a viral hit among shoppers on social media for offering alternative versions of pricier high-end products.

The B&M lamp: a budget-friendly alternative

B&M's Small Paper Rope Lamp, available in stores for just £12, could easily be mistaken at a glance for John Lewis's more expensive Pacific Allona Woven Rattan Table Lamp, which costs £149. While the two are not identical, B&M's lamp provides a more affordable option for those who appreciate the look of the John Lewis version but do not wish to spend more than necessary.

Both lamps feature a rattan-style base with a curved design, paired with a round lamp shade in light cream. However, the John Lewis lamp is significantly larger, measuring 60cm x 49cm x 49cm, compared to B&M's version, which is 18cm deep and 33cm tall.

Product details and customer appeal

On B&M's website, the product description reads: "Light up your home with this stylish Small Paper Rope Lamp. This lamp gives a natural and earthy look and would look great as a side table, bedside or hallway lamp." The lamp is made from linen and paper rattan, with a bulb capacity of E14, voltage 220-240V, and a maximum wattage of 40W. Shoppers can browse more lamps online or purchase in-store at B&M.

In contrast, John Lewis describes its lamp as 'exquisite' and 'stunning', stating: "This exquisite woven rattan table lamp brings an organic, tactile finish to your home. Its stunning proportions, curved shape and delicate weave ensure this table lamp will be the focal point in your room. The lined linen lampshade with a textured finish completes the table lamp beautifully."

Additional B&M garden lighting deals

Elsewhere at B&M, shoppers can add a touch of "exotic elegance" to their gardens this season with a set of lights that are free to run. The store is selling a pack of two Solar Powered Morocco Wall Lights for £7. These solar-powered lights run on sunlight, so they will not add to electricity bills. They come with rechargeable batteries and feature a "realistic amber flame effect".

In the full product description, B&M says: "Add a touch of exotic elegance to your outdoor space with this pair of Solar Powered Morocco Wall Lights. With flame effect LEDs and beautifully intricate Moroccan-inspired patterns, these wall lights cast stunning decorative light effects that enhance any patios, gardens, balconies, and pathways."
