B&M is offering a gadget that helps people dry clothes indoors quickly, cutting the risk of damp and mould this winter. The Addis Heated Fold-Out Clothes Airer is on sale in B&M stores for £40. The 230W unit runs at about 6p an hour.
How the Heated Airer Works
Describing the product online, B&M said: "Say goodbye to damp laundry hanging around for days. The Addis Heated Fold Out Airer uses gentle warmth to speed up drying time - great for those days when the weather just won't play ball."
"It folds out quickly when you need it and folds flat again for easy storage. The fold-out wings give you plenty of rail space for a full load, and the heated bars get to work straight away plugged in."
Cost Comparison with Central Heating
Because it costs about 6p an hour to run, drying clothes on it for six hours a day costs only 36p. In comparison, running a standard gas central heating system costs around 26p an hour (depending on the type of machine used), which adds up to nearly £1.56 for the same six-hour period.
Shoppers need to check whether their local store has stock, as items cannot be purchased online. The B&M website has an extensive range to browse online.
Similar Options at Other Retailers
Investing in a cover for a heated airer can improve drying time and quality by keeping warmth trapped around the clothes for longer, as shoppers are told when considering a similar model from Dunelm.
Also boasting 6p-an-hour drying time, the Three-Tier Heated Airer is on sale at Dunelm stores for £95, reduced to £76 as part of a 20% off sale. Dunelm claims this device is meant to "speed up the process" of drying laundry indoors, and that a cover "creates a warm, enclosed space that speeds up moisture evaporation, ensuring your laundry dries faster and more effectively".
Similar options are available elsewhere, such as the Pifco Electric Three-Tier Heated Airer from Home Bargains (£74.99) or the Argos Home 21m 3 Tier Heated Airer (£105).
