World-famous coffee chain Blank Street looks set to open a branch in Newcastle, after a job advert for a general manager for a Tyneside store appeared online.
From Brooklyn to the Toon
Despite its global popularity, it has only been six years since the first Blank Street shop opened in Brooklyn, New York. As of July 2025, the company was valued at $500 million. Known for its espresso and matcha drinks, Blank Street expanded to London in 2022, and later opened branches in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The chain currently operates 40 stores in the UK, but that number is set to rise with the Newcastle opening.
Job Advert Reveals Plans
The job listing for the 40-hour-a-week role on the Blank Street website says: "At Blank Street, we’re on a mission to become the defining food and beverage brand of our generation."
The advert adds: "From the very beginning, we’ve set out to add a spark to ordinary experiences through elevated products, attention-to-detail, and a commitment to making every moment memorable. We’re motivated by the millions of customers we serve across cities, and know that our potential is unlimited. It all starts with our people and their commitment to make magic happen each and every day."
Blank Street is seeking a general manager to "build and develop a high-performing team, drive strong commercial performance, and create a culture where people thrive," with the role described as "an opportunity to lead, scale, and build something bigger."
Newcastle's Dining Scene Booms
The news comes days after it was confirmed that celebrity favourite The Ivy is set to open in Newcastle, in the former home of Lloyds Bank on Grey Street. Plans submitted by Brighton-based architects Pattern Haus on behalf of Troia (UK) Restaurants Ltd show a proposed layout for the basement, ground floor, and a mezzanine level, with opening hours from 8am to 1.30am, Monday to Saturday.
