Ty Crefft, Craft House, a beloved independent shop in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, will close its doors for the final time on August 29. The shop, which has been a familiar sight on the Welsh high street for more than seven years, sells handmade gifts and craft items from independent suppliers.
Family reasons behind closure
Set up by mother and daughter Ann and Vicky Gleeson, the shop has focused on locally made and artisan-style products, showcasing the work of more than 80 crafters from across Wales. Items range from jewellery and clothing to homeware and toiletries.
The owners announced the decision with "very heavy hearts", explaining that changes in their family life made it increasingly difficult to keep the shop running.
Farewell message and thanks
In a farewell message shared on social media, they said: "It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that Ty Crefft will be closing its doors on 29th August 2026."
They added: "We apologise for the short notice but this decision has not been taken lightly. Over the past few years, life has changed for our family, and after much thought, we have decided that now is the right time to close this chapter."
The owners explained that Vicky has become increasingly busy helping on the family's farm, while Ann's health is "not what it once was". Fewer people were available to cover shifts, and they wanted to spend more time together as a family.
Potential future for the shop
Despite the closure, the pair hope the shop could have a future under somebody else. They said: "While we are incredibly sad to be saying goodbye, we are excited to see what the future might hold for the shop. There is an opportunity for someone to take over Ty Crefft as it currently stands, or alternatively, the empty unit will be available to rent from 1st October."
They expressed a wish to see the space continue to be part of Narberth's thriving high street. Ann and Vicky also thanked the artists and crafters whose products filled the shop over the years, saying: "Your creativity, passion and trust have made the shop what it is, and it has been an absolute privilege to showcase your work."
Ty Crefft will continue trading as normal until August 29, with the owners encouraging people to visit during its final days. They added: "We are incredibly sad to be closing this chapter, but so grateful for all the memories, friendships, and support we’ve had along the way."
