Asda is set to open its sixth standalone George concept store on Thursday, July 9, transforming a former grocery store in Barnsley into a 28,000-square-foot fashion and lifestyle hub. The new store at Cortonwood Shopping Park in Brampton will be entirely dedicated to George, Asda's clothing and homeware brand, which was first trialled in 1989 and rolled out nationwide in 1990.
What the New Store Offers
The Barnsley store will stock clothing for women, men, and children, alongside an expanded George Home Department featuring bedding, bathroom accessories, dining essentials, home décor, and seasonal collections. Upgraded facilities include refurbished fitting rooms, more self-service checkouts, and a faster parcel collection service. The original Asda store closed on June 28 for refurbishment.
Kevin Doyle, vice president of George, said: “We’re excited to bring our latest stand-alone George store concept to South Yorkshire and give local customers an even better way to shop our fashion and home collections. This investment in Barnsley reflects our commitment to continuing to grow the George brand and enhancing the experience we offer customers. We’ve created a modern shopping destination that brings together our best fashion and home ranges in one place, and we look forward to welcoming shoppers through the doors in July.”
