Asda to Close Barnsley Store on June 28 for George Concept Revamp
Asda Barnsley Store Closes June 28 for George Revamp

Asda has announced the temporary closure of its Barnsley store in South Yorkshire on Saturday, June 28, to undergo a transformation into a standalone George concept store. The store will reopen on Thursday, July 9, marking the sixth Asda Living location in the UK to adopt the new George format.

Investment in Modernisation

The closure is part of Asda's broader strategy to strengthen the George brand and create dedicated shopping destinations for fashion and homeware. The Barnsley store, located at Cortonwood Retail Park, will be revamped to offer an extensive range of George clothing for women, men, and children, along with an expanded George Home section featuring bedding, bath, dining, and home accessories.

Customers will also find seasonal collections, including Stacey Solomon's George Home range and selected items from Yasmin Le Bon's George fashion edit. The new layout aims to make shopping easier and more inspiring, with a dedicated character shop for families, upgraded fitting rooms, additional self-service tills, and a streamlined parcel collection service.

Commitment to Growth

George Vice President Karl Doyle said: "We're excited to bring our latest stand-alone George store concept to South Yorkshire and give local customers an even better way to shop our fashion and home collections. This investment in Barnsley reflects our commitment to continuing to grow the George brand and enhancing the experience we offer customers."

Doyle added: "We've created a modern shopping destination that brings together our best fashion and home ranges in one place, and we look forward to welcoming shoppers through the doors in July."

Opening Day Celebrations

To celebrate the launch on July 9, the first 500 customers spending £5 or more in-store from 9am will receive a golden ticket, with prizes ranging from £5 to £500 to spend in-store. The event will feature a live DJ and a special appearance by award-winning Barnsley-born radio personality Stephanie Hirst.

Celebrations continue on Saturday, July 11, with a launch event from 10am, including a high-energy cyclone challenge for a chance to win George gift vouchers and other prizes.
