Aldi has announced plans to open two new stores in South Wales as part of a £370 million investment across the UK. The supermarket chain will open locations in Newport and Port Talbot by the end of 2026.
Details of the Expansion
The two new Welsh stores are part of a broader rollout of 16 new stores nationwide. In Newport, the new store will be the city's third Aldi, joining existing branches on Albany Street and Spytty Road. Port Talbot will gain its second Aldi, complementing the current store on Commercial Road.
Investment and Growth
Aldi currently operates over 1,080 stores across the UK and aims to reach 1,500. The £370 million investment for this year underscores the company's commitment to expansion. Managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, Jonathan Neale, emphasized the goal of making affordable food accessible: "We’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network."
