Aldi is introducing a three-bottle purchase limit on its viral Le Grand Poulet Rosé Magnum, known online as 'Chicken Wine', during a limited-time promotion in UK stores. The 1.5 litre bottle will sell for £9.99 from August 27 to September 2, with customers capped at three bottles each.
Viral wine returns with purchase cap
The retailer announced the rule ahead of the sale, saying the wine is expected to sell quickly. The pale peach-pink rosé is described as light and dry, with zesty citrus and red-berry aromas and a crisp finish. Aldi pitches it as an easy-drinking option for end-of-summer gatherings.
The wine has already drawn attention this summer, with wine judge Sam Caporn praising it on Instagram. She called it a "gorgeous magnum" and "even more of a winner".
Why the limit is in place
The wine is already in Aldi stores, but the discounted price lasts only one week. As with other Aldi specials, when it sells out, it is gone. Short-run promotions are designed to create urgency, and the purchase limit aims to stop a handful of shoppers from clearing shelves or buying up stock to resell. It can also help stores manage stock levels during short promotions.
Shoppers who prefer a smaller option can buy Le Petit Poulet Rosé, a standard 75cl bottle priced at £6.29.
Wider store changes and advice
As of August 21, Aldi is running a student-themed home and kitchen event featuring cleaning supplies and appliances such as compact air fryers, rice cookers, kettles and toasters. From August 27, the middle aisle will shift to a Baby and Toddler event with toys, bassinets, kitchenware and more.
Shoppers can check Aldi's website or in-store leaflets for upcoming offers. Aldi also reminds customers to stay mindful of total alcohol intake and to pace themselves, with support available via Drinkaware's website.
