Aldi launches wooden kebab toy carts to train next generation of 'bossmen'
Aldi launches wooden kebab toy carts for kids

Aldi has introduced a wooden toy kebab cart that lets children role-play serving doner and shish kebabs, complete with a contactless card payment section and a chicken skewer. The 2-in-1 Cinema Counter and Kebab Takeaway Food Cart is part of the supermarket's Specialbuy Wooden Toys range, one of its most eagerly awaited collections each year.

Encouraging imaginative play

Julie Ashfield, Aldi's chief commercial officer, told the Daily Star that the toys help encourage kids to "explore everyday scenarios." She said: "The 2-in-1 Cinema Counter and Kebab Takeaway Food Cart combines imaginative play with great value, and it's been fantastic to see such a positive response from both children and parents looking for high-quality wooden toys at an affordable price."

Ashfield added: "Toys that encourage role play can help children develop creativity, confidence and communication skills while having fun. Whether they're serving cinema snacks or running their own food stall, these kinds of toys encourage children to explore everyday scenarios, use their imagination and engage in interactive play with friends and family."

Popular response online

The cart has already drawn a strong reaction online, with some shoppers expressing surprise. One person commented: "Wait. This is real." The toy allows children to serve customers, stock shelves and dish up meals without the complications of food safety regulations.

Halloween-themed extras

The launch coincides with Aldi opening "broomstick parking bays" at a store in York, which was voted the "UK's spookiest city." The supermarket said aspiring witches and wizards can use purpose-built racks to park their brooms, with themed vinyl flooring and spooky signage completing the bays.

Aldi's study of 2,000 people found that 84% of Brits enjoy celebrating Halloween, and the average person plans to attend at least two Halloween events or activities this year.
