Aldi is offering free strawberries to customers at its Wimbledon store in London until Friday, July 3, 2026, coinciding with the start of the Wimbledon Championships. The supermarket chain is celebrating the tournament by providing complimentary punnets of its British strawberries to shoppers visiting the store.
Nationwide Price Reduction
For customers across the rest of the UK, Aldi has slashed the price of its Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (227g) to just 99p, which is 55% cheaper than equivalent punnets at M&S. Other options include Everyday Essentials Wonky Strawberries (£1.19, 227g), Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (£1.99, 400g), Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (£2.79, 600g), and Specially Selected British Grown Strawberries (£2.85, 400g).
Sales and Health Trends
Last year, Aldi sold nearly 1,700 tonnes of British strawberries during Wimbledon, equivalent to 4.5 million punnets. This year, the supermarket expects to sell over five million punnets. The offer follows a growing trend among health-conscious shoppers, as strawberries are naturally sweet and rich in vitamin C and fibre.
Tradition of Strawberries at Wimbledon
Strawberries have been associated with Wimbledon since the championship began in 1877, as the tournament falls during the peak British strawberry season. The tradition dates back to 1509 when Cardinal Thomas Wolsey served strawberries and cream at King Henry VIII's court. Today, over 38 tons of handpicked berries from Hugh Lowe Farms are consumed during the two-week event.
