Aldi £3.99 window insulation kit cuts draughts like £10 Dunelm version
Aldi £3.99 window kit rivals £10 Dunelm draught stopper

Aldi's Easy Home Window Insulation Kit, priced at £3.99, is set for UK-wide release this Sunday, October 18, as part of the supermarket's Special Buy refresh. The budget-friendly product aims to reduce draughts and heat loss through older, drafty, or single-glazed windows.

Aldi says: "Keep your home warmer and more energy efficient with this easy-to-install window insulation kit. Designed to help reduce draughts and heat loss, it's a simple solution for a cosier living space."

How the kit works

The kit contains a clear plastic shrink film and a roll of double-sided tape. Users attach the tape to the window frame, apply the film, and then use a standard household hairdryer to shrink the material until it is completely taut and wrinkle-free.

This process traps a layer of still air between the cold glass and the living space, effectively mimicking the effects of secondary glazing. By sealing up draughts, the kit helps stop cold air from entering homes and prevents expensive indoor heat from escaping.

Comparison with Dunelm's version

Aldi's £3.99 kit is similar to the Stormguard Secondary Glazing Window Film set available at Dunelm. The "easy to fit" kit is described as an economical alternative to double glazing as it "creates a secondary glazing effect across any window". Dunelm also says that it "helps save energy and money on your heating bills".

However, the Dunelm version costs £10 and "covers four windows". Aldi's £3.99 version covers five.

Potential savings

Window insulation kits can reduce heat loss through windows by up to 35% and cut overall winter heating bills by 10% to 20%, according to experts at Homes and Gardens. They provide a highly noticeable difference for homes with older, drafty, or single-pane windows.
