Limescale is a common problem in UK households, building up quickly and clinging to taps, shower heads and shower screens. Left untreated, it can also collect inside pipes and heating systems, and beyond looking unsightly, it risks causing real damage.
Removing limescale can be difficult, although many limescale-removal products are on the market. After testing several options, one product has become a firm favourite for Mia O'Hare, Senior Spare Time Journalist.
Flash versus Viakal
While many people choose Viakal, O'Hare found a more affordable alternative that she believes delivers better results. Her choice is Flash Bathroom cleaner, priced at £1.89 for a 500ml bottle in B&M and £2.44 for an 800ml bottle from Asda. It claims to eliminate up to 100% of bathroom grime and limescale.
By comparison, Viakal's Classic Limescale Remover costs £2.89 for a 500ml bottle from B&M and £4.98 for a 1050ml bottle from Asda.
Simple application and visible results
The Flash product comes in packaging almost indistinguishable from Viakal's and is designed to be straightforward and user-friendly. The guidance suggests allowing the solution to work on the limescale-affected area for up to five minutes.
Apply the spray nozzle to coat the problem zone and let it sit for the advised duration. When the time has passed, remove the product using a damp cloth.
The outcome is impressive: after a gentle wipe of the product from bathroom taps, a significant portion of the limescale had been eliminated. O'Hare prefers to go back over the surface with a sponge to make certain all the limescale has been removed.
A superior cleaning option
The taps appeared noticeably cleaner and a substantial amount of limescale had been removed. The results were straightforward to achieve as the product does the heavy lifting for you. When using Viakal previously, O'Hare was left with limescale residue still clinging to her taps.
For her, Flash's cleaner is the superior product available and is what she turns to when she needs to address limescale in her home.
