The government has released a list of businesses fined for employing illegal workers, with dozens in London facing penalties. From October 1 to December 31, 2025, a total of 61 London businesses were handed fines for violating employment laws.
Seven Businesses Fined Over £100,000
Among those penalized, seven businesses received fines exceeding £100,000. Lahore One Restaurant on Commercial Road, Basak Bakery in Haringey, and Antep Tas Firin in Enfield were each fined £135,000. Mr Wong’s Wok and Box in Bethnal Green, M A Builders in Ilford, and Royal Garrison Church of Saint Michael & All Angels were each fined £120,000. Al Balad Restaurant on Edgware Road was fined £110,000.
All Other Companies Fined at Least £30,000
All other businesses on the list were fined a minimum of £30,000. The penalties are part of a government crackdown to ensure compliance with immigration rules and that employees have the legal right to work in the UK.
Consequences for Employers
Employers who knowingly hire workers without the right to work face serious consequences, including up to five years in prison. They may also be held liable if they fail to conduct proper right-to-work checks before hiring new staff.
Public Urged to Report Suspicious Activity
The government has encouraged the public to report any suspicions of illegal working anonymously by calling the Immigration Enforcement hotline at 0300 123 7000.
