A family-run Asian restaurant in Ayr has been granted a full premises licence by South Ayrshire Licensing Board.
Application Approved
The application, submitted by Amporn Uddoung for the Medium Rare Restaurant, was approved at a meeting of the board. Members were told the premises had operated under occasional licences since December 2025 while the owners completed the full licensing process.
Licensing officials said the restaurant had obtained the necessary certificates from planning, environmental health and building standards departments, along with a disabled access statement and documentation outlining how it would meet licensing objectives. No objections were received from consultees or members of the public.
Collaboration with Licensing Staff
Speaking during the meeting, Licensing Standards Officer Catrina Andrew said the applicants had worked closely with licensing staff throughout the process and had followed all board policies and procedures.
Restaurant Details
The restaurant occupies a former children's clothing shop in a row of commercial premises and has undergone a full refurbishment. Improvements include an accessible toilet and bar. Board members heard the venue has a seating capacity of 22 and is intended to operate primarily as a food-led business, with alcohol sales to complement meals rather than attract customers solely for drinking.
The applicant also runs the nearby @Home Thai restaurant, and indicated that staff could be shared between the businesses when required.
Council Praise
Councillor Martin Kilbride welcomed the application, noting that the occasional licences had allowed the business to trade while progressing through the full approval process. He said it was "lovely to see a restaurant done to that standard" and that the licensing process had been followed correctly.
The application was seconded by Ayr North councillor Laura Brennan Whitefield, who described Thai at Home as "an excellent restaurant" and welcomed the expansion of the business.
Board members voted to grant the full premises licence.
