A Grade II-listed cottage that appeared in the BBC sitcom Vicar of Dibley has been put up for auction, with a starting bid of £375,000. The property, known as Church Cottage, sits next to the house used as the exterior for Geraldine Granger's home in the popular series, which ran from 1994 to 2000 and was followed by several specials.
Located in the village of Turville, Buckinghamshire, the two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage is being sold by Town & Country North West, based in Liverpool, with the auction scheduled for November 12.
Filming Location and Property Details
Filming of Dawn French's character's front door mostly took place at the neighbouring property, with some wider shots using both cottages to represent the home. Interior shots for the show were filmed at a different property.
The cottage, a 17th century timber frame building, has had some updating but would benefit from further renovation, according to the listing. It includes a generous rear garden with parking and a former lean-to car port, while the front approach through the church grounds adds historic charm.
Screen Pedigree and Historical Setting
The property is on the grounds of St Mary the Virgin Church, which was renamed St Barnabas Church in the show. Turville has also featured in the film Goodnight Mister Tom and the TV show Midsomer Murders.
Although listed with an estimate of £375,000, the cottage will likely sell for substantially more. It was previously listed with Savills in 2022, with a guide price of £900,000.
