A homeowner has been left £150 out of pocket after a neighbour's automatic sprinkler system repeatedly drenched their car. The sprinkler, which activates at 6:30am each day, is angled directly at the victim's driveway, leaving the vehicle covered in water spots and mineral deposits.
Despite five requests to adjust the sprinkler head, the neighbour, described as being in his late 50s, refused, claiming the system was 'professionally installed and calibrated perfectly'. When the victim demonstrated the volume of water hitting the car, the neighbour reportedly said 'a little water never hurt anyone' and suggested the victim should be grateful for the free car wash.
The mineral deposits eventually damaged the car's paintwork, requiring a £150 professional repair. When the victim asked the neighbour to cover the cost, they were laughed at and told it was their own problem. The victim then adjusted the sprinkler head themselves, but the neighbour called the police, who said the victim could not tamper with the neighbour's property even if it was spraying onto their driveway.
Since the incident, the neighbour has allegedly angled the sprinkler to spray even more towards the driveway. The victim now parks on the street, a five-minute walk away, but says their own driveway should be usable. The Reddit post attracted nearly 500 comments, with some suggesting revenge tactics such as using grass killer or salt to damage the neighbour's lawn.
